Introduction

In our previous post we talked about how to apply for the student visa in the UK. Now let’s get to further steps and talk about visa extension while you are studying in the UK.

We are going to give you some tips that we wished someone would have given us a year ago. Just before starting the university we were unsure of what documents we have to gather and what are the requirements. Even though we could pay an agent to do all the works, we decided to go through this challenge and get some experience.

So let’s dive in without any hesitation.

1. Make sure your bank statement is ready

when applying for visa, you need to show that you have had enough money to cover you tuition fees and living costs for 28 consecutive days. It is worth mentioning that, if you pay any part of your tuition fees to the CAS provider (institution you applied to), it will be shown on your CAS and you are only required to show the remaining part of your tuition fees on your bank statement. Remember, I mentioned any money paid to the CAS provider, this does not include your accommodation.

2. Be cautious about your maintenance fees (Living Costs)

You might be asking how to calculate the living expenses? The Living expenses depends on where you live. If you live in Greater London you must have a Minimum of £1265 per months of your course while, if you are studying outside the Greater London you must have at least £1015 per months of your course. Now, let me tell you about the mistake that I (Parham) made when I did my visa application. My first accommodation instalment was due on the date that I sent my visa application, the mistake that I made was that I paid the accommodation fees first and then applied for my visa. My bank deposit dropped just before doing the application, therefore, I no longer had enough money to cover both tuition fees and living costs for my visa application, this lead me to do another visa application and whole lot of trouble.

3. Get your CAS (confirmation of acceptance for studies)

First of all, what is CAS? It is a unique reference electric document that you can get from your immigration sponsor ( institution you applied to ). This document indicates that a particular institution supports you to get your visa. So basically without CAS number you cannot even apply for your visa.

we recommend you to get you CAS as soon as possible and make sure all the details on the document are correct.

Plus, don’t forget each CAS number is only valid for one visa application ( get a new one if you got refused ), and each of them expires six months after they are issued.

4. Get in touch with visa team as soon as possible

Please do this the second you are ready with all of your documents. Because each institution has countable number of visa team supporters, and so many students. Plus as it was mentioned in tip 2 you may not be aware of some regulations and miss some stuff and do something wrong. So, let’s get in touch with these nice people and ask for help.

Please remember that some institutions don’t provide support for visa. In this case contact an agent to help you apply for your visa application.

5. DON’T waste your Money!

You probably heard about Priority and super priority services for visa. Believe me you DON’T need one. Your institution allows you to start studying till your BRP card is ready, and personally ( Maddy ) I’ve seen people who didn’t pay for priority services and got their visa faster than people who requested one.

Conclusion

So we got to the end of these golden tips. We hope these will help you in your future visa application, and assist you to be at top up your tasks in gathering documents. At the end we want to congratulate all those student who made it to their next level of studying in the UK and hope you an amazing academic year.

XOXO
