Introduction

As far as I remember plants always gave a different taste to my student life style, and I consider them so relaxing . There are times I’m looking at my laptop screen for hours, and get tired. At that moment nothing can calm me down rather than looking at my plants and think how can something be this beautiful. How can life be summarised in a little cute plant. They are indeed a symbol of happiness, calmness and beauty. Plus they come in different colour, shapes and tangles which drives me to don’t get tired of buying them.

In this post I will give you a little back ground of my favourite indoor plants that are really easy to take care of, and follow it by some tips of propagation of these cuties. So you can start this caring journey with full pack of knowledge.

Let’s start this gardening post.

The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies -Gertrude Jekyll

Background

To begin with I should say I currently taking care of 9 plants in my student accommodation I have, one Orchid, two Monstera plants , 1 Devil‘s Ivy, 1 Guzmania and 4 Aloe vera plants. You may wonder how as a full time student, who is always busy I take care of all of these plants. Let me tell you something, if you just need to find a plant That suits your life style, you needn’t spend much time to take care of them.

1. Watering rule

As an international student I always change my accommodation and there are so many times that I ask some friends to take care of my plants. The first question that they always ask is “How often do I need to water them’’. Despite of the various answers in google, I always think about this simple rule ’’ water them when the soil is not moist at top anymore, and water till you see drops coming out of the opening at the end pot ’’. Believe me that works for most of the plants.

Plus if your plants is coming from a tropical environment consider to always moist the leaves or place the plants in an humid environment like your bathroom, so they get that tropical feeling . I personally do that to my Monstera plants , and they love it.

2. Plant pot rule

I remember buying the cutest pots when I started planting, without thinking about the drainage. Let me tell you something, water needs to be drained from the soil, otherwise the roots can get rotten, and when the roots get rotten your plant just dies.

So, I buy one of does brown plastic pots with drainage and place a plastic plant saucer underneath so the water won’t destroy my room.

In some cases if I want to make it more aesthetic, I put the plastic pots with drainage in a bigger cuter plant pot that doesn’t have drainage underneath.

Make sure the pot without drainage is bigger so can give the water the chance of evaporation and prevent the roots get damaged.

3. Light rule

I believe we all know light is as important as water when it comes to plants. When it comes to the outdoor plants, most of them require direct sunlight for so many hours. However, house plants are different story. They require artificial or indirect sunlight.

So when placing them in your room be careful with the lightening I always admired plants next to the window, but since direct sunlight might ruin my plants I place them on a surface near to the window but not completely next to the window.

4. Plant food rule

Plants food is usually missed by plant keepers. It’s important to know the plant uses up the nutritious that is in the soil, so to boost up the soil nutrition plant food is required. You can add the 5 to 10 drops of the plant food in water every time you feed them, so you make sure your baby plant has enough food to grow.

I personally use baby bio, and It can be used for all of my plants .

Conclusion

As you start caring for indoor plants you may loose some, till you get to know where to put them, how many times you need to water them and etc. Don’t worry, if any of your plants starting to get paler, browner and weaken. Just try new techniques to revive your plants.

So Medxadventures in singing off here with a warm hug for all of those plant lovers around the world.
